Bid Release 3a and 3b for Foxconn Science & Technology Park Industrial Construction Work Phase 1, Area 1

M+W | Gilbane has distributed the following Invitation to Bid

The invitation to bid for Bid Release 3a and 3b for Foxconn's Industrial Construction Work Phase 1, Area 1 of Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park is available on the Wisconn Valley website. Bid Release 3a includes site utility work and temporary logistics.  Bid Release 3b includes onsite roadway work and storm drainage.  Future bid releases in 4th quarter 2018 will include the Power Substation.

$100 Million Foxconn Gift Launches Major Partnership with UW-Madison

On Monday, Foxconn announced plans to invest $100 million in engineering and innovation research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, launching an unprecedented partnership between one of the world's top universities and one of the world's top high tech manufacturing companies.  As a part of this new partnership, Foxconn Chairman and Founder Terry Gou and UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank signed an agreement to establish the Foxconn Institute for Research in Science and Technology (FIRST).  

FIRST will serve as a hub for technological innovation and provide an environment for research and development initiatives in medical science, materials science, computer and data-driven science, among other fields.  The agreements formalize UW's commitment to being part of research efforts at FIRST and Foxconn's commitment to activities such as research, recruiting, creating opportunities for internships and hands-on work in campus labs.

$100 Million Wisconn Valley Venture Fund Announced

On Tuesday, Governor Scott Walker joined representatives from Advocate Aurora Health, Foxconn, Johnson Controls, and Northwestern Mutual to announce their partnership to create a $100 million venture fund, the Wisconn Valley Venture Fund.  Each organization has contributed $25 million to the fund which will invest both nationally and globally, targeting transformative and interdisciplinary innovations in health care, technology, manufacturing, and financial services.

The goal of the fund is to generate strong investment returns while also offering the opportunity to create strategic benefits among the four firms and the companies in which the fund invests.  For Advocate Aurora Health, Foxconn, Johnson Controls, and Northwestern Mutual, this fund continues their commitment to advancing innovative technology and positioning southeastern Wisconsin as a global technology hub.

Wisconn Valley Small Business Capacity Building Sessions

More than 250 attendees took part in the Wisconn Valley Small Business Capacity Building Sessions held on August 15 and 24.  Individuals representing small and/or disadvantaged businesses traveled from across the state and a few from out of state to understand opportunities available to them through the Foxconn project.  

Hosted by the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA), these sessions sought to educate small and disadvantaged business leaders about the project and equip them with the financial and workforce development tools needed to participate in the development more effectively.  

At least two more Wisconn Valley Small Business Capacity Building Sessions will be scheduled in other regions of the state.  Information on upcoming sessions will be provided in the Wisconn Valley News, as it becomes available.

Pre-Bid Meeting: A Pre-Bid Meeting will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Village Hall, 8811 Campus Drive, Mount Pleasant, WI 53406. 

Anticipated Contract Award Date: Tuesday, October 2, 2018

Overview: A summary of the proposed improvements includes: clearing and grubbing, pavement sawcutting, pavement and storm sewer removals, water main and storm sewer installation, construction of storm water bio retention areas, curb and gutter. excavation, signing and pavement marking. concrete pavement, traffic control, pavement patching, traffic signal loop detector replacement. restoration. and erosion control. Major work items and approximate quantities include: 25,500 square yards of concrete pavement, 9,800 linear feet of curb and gutter, 11,300 tons of base aggregate dense, 7,800 linear feet of varied sized (12-inch through 72-inch) reinforced concrete storm sewer pipe, 9,000 linear feet of 36-inch water main, 760 linear feet of 6-inch through 24-inch water main and associated appurtenances, 25,000 feet of pavement marking, 700 square feet of MSE retaining wall, and 20,000 cubic yards of excavation common.
